The authorities want to terminate the concession for the construction of the sports and recreation complex in Sormovo.

      April 12, 2026 5:00 PM The Ministry of Sports of the Nizhny Novgorod Region is preparing to file a lawsuit due to issues with the problematic physical culture and health complex in the Sormovsky District. This was reported by representatives of the ministry on social media.

      The concession for the construction of the sports complex on Korableystroiteley Avenue was concluded between the regional government and LLC "First Nizhny Novgorod Sports Infrastructure." Work began in October 2024, but was suspended in November. Construction resumed in April 2025. However, at the end of the year, at the initiative of the concessionaire, the project was frozen. At that time, the readiness of the sports complex was only 24.5%.

      In February 2026, the Ministry of Sports informed NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" that work on the foundations, vertical structures, installation of floor slabs, and staircases had been completed at the site. In addition, the laying of parapets and fire walls was completed.

      Now the fate of the long-delayed project has piqued the interest of residents of Nizhny Novgorod: "What will happen to the sports complex in Sormovo? It’s already April 2026, and it’s still not there."

      Representatives of the regional Ministry of Sports responded to the inquiry. They stated that claims had been made against the concessionaire. The ministry sent a pre-trial claim in accordance with the terms of the concluded concession. No response was received.

      To terminate the concession in accordance with current legislation, the Ministry of Sports is preparing a lawsuit, which is planned to be submitted to the Arbitration Court of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      It is worth noting that this is already the second unsuccessful attempt to build a sports complex in Sormovo. The first investor faced financial difficulties. The contract with them was terminated, and the unfinished building was transferred to regional ownership. It was then demolished. The concessionaire LLC "First Nizhny Novgorod Sports Infrastructure" was supposed to build the facility from scratch.
