Nizhny Novgorod residents were told how to properly treat areas for ticks.

April 13, 2026 15:47 Society NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" - Maria Orlova Nizhny Novgorod residents were told how to properly treat areas for ticks. Recommendations were given at a press conference in the NOIC by Natalia Sadykova, deputy head of the Rospotrebnadzor department for the Nizhny Novgorod region, reports NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" correspondent.

According to her, it is important to follow the correct sequence for treating the area for ticks. You should start by cleaning up last year's leaves and debris, as ticks and their larvae can survive in them.

After clearing the area, it is necessary to carry out rodent control, as they are carriers of ticks and contribute to their spread. Only then should acaricide treatment be conducted. This will help eliminate both active individuals and those ticks that are still in a dormant state, as well as prevent conditions for their further reproduction.

If the area borders a forest, specialists recommend treating the adjacent territory to create a protective barrier.

As the grass grows, it is necessary to regularly mow it and keep the area well-maintained. Even if some ticks remain, the absence of tall grass and cluttered zones deprives them of the ability to move actively over long distances, reducing the risk of reproduction and attacks on people.

While resting in nature, residents are advised to choose light-colored, solid clothing, tuck pants into shoes, wear a head covering, and regularly conduct self-examinations and mutual checks. If a tick has not attached, it can be removed and destroyed. In the case of attachment, the insect should be carefully twisted out using thread, tweezers, or a special device, without pulling or treating with chemicals, then placed in a tightly sealed container and delivered to a laboratory.

Natalia Sadykova reminded that 28 cases of tick bites have already been registered in the region, of which 14 are children. The first case this year was recorded back in January. Cases of attachment have been noted in 14 municipalities, and in Nizhny Novgorod, in the Avtozavodsky, Prioksky, and Sovetsky districts. Last year, according to her, eight cases of tick-borne encephalitis were registered, four of which were imported.

Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor reported where to take a tick for examination. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
