Gleb Nikitin instructed to develop support measures for metallurgical enterprises.
April 10, 2026 08:59 Economy The situation in the chemical industry and metallurgy was discussed at a meeting of the operational headquarters for ensuring the sustainability of socio-economic development in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The meeting was chaired by the governor of the region, the secretary of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the "United Russia" party, Gleb Nikitin.
The head of the region noted that overall, the socio-economic situation in the area remains stable; however, there is tension in a number of sectors.
"In the industries discussed this time at the headquarters – namely, chemistry and metallurgy – the decline has continued since last year. We need to discuss the reasons and which specific enterprises have influenced this at the operational headquarters," said Gleb Nikitin.
The deputy minister of economic development and investments of the region, Alexander Solovyov, reported that as a result of 2025, the industrial production index in the chemical industry was 88.7%. The profits of enterprises have decreased, and the level of indebtedness has increased.
He noted that the chemical industry is one of the key sectors for the region and accounts for about 9.5% of industrial production. According to him, the decline in 2025 is mainly related to external factors, including competition from China and a decrease in orders in related industries, primarily in automotive manufacturing. Additional pressure is exerted by the growth of accounts payable and liquidity problems at certain enterprises.
Alexander Solovyov emphasized that in 2026, the overwhelming majority of large and medium-sized companies in the sector remain profitable.
The situation in metallurgy is assessed as more complex. The industrial production index for the past year was 72.9% and has not yet shown positive dynamics.
According to the deputy minister, an analysis of the financial indicators of 11 large enterprises in the metallurgical complex showed that 80% of them reduced their production volumes in 2025.
"Enterprises where production decreased by more than 40% ended the year with losses. I want to note that for some municipalities, metallurgical enterprises determine the development of the entire territory. The negative dynamics are explained by both internal and external factors," he said.
Following the meeting, Gleb Nikitin instructed to work with federal structures on issues of targeted support for metallurgical enterprises and to continue active monitoring of the situation in the chemical industry.
It was previously reported that a center for the development of small chemistry was proposed to be created in Dzerzhinsk.
