A 780 kg Tsar Easter cake and a giant kulich will be prepared for the residents of Nizhny Novgorod.

      On April 5, 2026, at 16:32 Society In Nizhny Novgorod, a king-sized Easter cake will be prepared for the celebration of Easter. Its weight will be 780 kilograms (last year the cake weighed 580 kg).

      The cake will be made in the shape of a pyramid: the base will measure 90 by 90 cm, and the height will reach approximately one meter. Nuts, raisins, chocolate, and confectionery decor will be used for decoration.

      In addition, a giant kulich will be baked for the holiday. Its weight will reach 250 kg, and its height will exceed one meter. The pastry will be decorated with pearlescent beads, floral branches, icing, and sugar balls.

      The kulich is prepared using an ancient technology, as reported by the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolis. The recipe includes a dough starter with a large number of eggs, butter, flour, raisins, and sugar. To ensure even baking, it is baked in layers, which are then joined together with boiled condensed milk.

      The entire preparation process, including kneading, baking, shaping, and cooling, takes at least two days.

      The festive treats will be blessed by Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas. The blessing will take place at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral at the Confluence after the procession (0+), which will be held on April 12.
