In Tyumen, scammers tried to deceive a lawyer and ended up calling the police themselves.

On April 2, 2026, at 16:18, Incidents Lawyer Vadim Dumenov from Tyumen encountered a group of fraudsters attempting to deceive residents of the city into giving them money. The criminals offered "free gifts" in the form of cosmetics and perfumes from well-known brands, and then tried to extort money from people under the pretext of "symbolic" payment.

      How the scheme works

Vadim Dumenov told "MegaTyumen" that the fraudsters have been going door-to-door for several years, posing as participants in a "family celebration" taking place in one of the shopping centers. They hand out "gifts" and then begin to convince people that these gifts are not entirely free, demanding a "symbolic payment" ranging from 10,000 to 40,000 rubles. The lawyer notes that the actual cost of such goods does not exceed 500 rubles, and they can easily be found on marketplaces.

      Conflict with the fraudsters

Vadim Dumenov claims that he has repeatedly contacted the police with complaints about the fraudsters but did not receive an adequate response. This time, he took the "gifts," locked himself in his apartment, and called the police. The situation quickly escalated into a conflict: the criminals knocked on the door and threatened him, and then they called the police themselves, accusing Dumenov of theft. Officers from the duty unit suggested returning the goods without investigation, but the lawyer refused.

"The duty officer asked if I was willing to give them this 'gift.' I said I was ready, but only after a police officer arrived, documented everything, and began taking actions to hold those responsible for this fraudulent scheme accountable," the lawyer recounted.

The situation became even tenser as the fraudsters continued to wait by the door. The district officer suggested Dumenov come to the station to file a report, but the lawyer could not leave due to the presence of the fraudsters. In the evening, Dumenov managed to reach the police station, provided explanations, and handed over the "gift."

      Lawyer calls for vigilance

Dumenov emphasizes that such schemes have long been known and regularly lead to legal disputes. In these cases, the fraudsters also imposed goods on citizens at inflated prices - cosmetics, dishes, and appliances. According to him, in some cases, the accused were sentenced to actual imprisonment.

The lawyer urges anyone who has encountered such deception not to remain silent and to report such cases to the police. Only by doing so can we stop the fraudsters who continue to profit from people's trust.
