In the Nizhny Novgorod region, spring restrictions on the catch of aquatic biological resources have come into effect.

      From April 1 to June 15, 2026, seasonal restrictions on amateur and sport fishing will be introduced in the water bodies of the Nizhny Novgorod region. These measures are aimed at preserving fish populations during their active spawning period and ensuring favorable conditions for the reproduction of aquatic biological resources. Employees of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region, together with representatives of fish protection and the National Guard, will begin conducting an operational preventive measure called "Spawning."

      We remind you that during the spring spawning period, the following restrictions and rules are in place:

      1. Fishing is allowed only from the shore outside spawning areas with one float or bottom fishing rod, where the total number of hooks does not exceed 2 per citizen.

      2. The use of any nets, traps, electric fishing rods, and other poaching gear is prohibited. The use of small vessels with engines (motorboats, jet skis) in spawning areas is also prohibited.

      The daily catch limit is generally no more than 5 kg. The police warn that violations of fishing rules entail both administrative and criminal liability:

      • Administrative liability (Article 8.37 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation) entails a fine of up to 5,000 rubles for citizens, along with the confiscation of the vessel and fishing gear.

      • Criminal liability under Article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation arises in cases of causing significant damage, illegal fishing in spawning areas, or using mass extermination methods (nets, electric shock, explosives) and provides for punishment of up to 2 years in prison, and up to 5 years if committed by a group of individuals.

      In addition, guilty parties are required to compensate for the damage caused to aquatic biological resources.
