An illegal migrant was detained after a fatal traffic accident in Nizhny Novgorod.

      On March 31, 2026, at 10:31, Incidents. In Nizhny Novgorod, a driver who caused a fatal accident and attempted to flee from the investigation was arrested. His whereabouts were established by police officers from the Nizhny Novgorod region and Samara. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region.

      The traffic accident occurred on March 19, 2026, at around 15:40 on Larin Street in the Prioksky district. According to the investigation, the man was driving a domestic car from the Myzin Bridge towards Gagarin Avenue. He chose an unsafe speed, sharply turned to the right, and lost control. As a result, the car went off the road and hit a pedestrian. The victim was taken to the hospital, but died the next day.

      After the accident, the driver waited for the police, but then, without completing the necessary documents, left in an unknown direction. A criminal case has been initiated under part 4 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of traffic rules and operation of vehicles." The man had previously been held accountable under a similar article. In addition, he is a citizen of a Transcaucasian state and was in Russia illegally.

      The suspect was detained in Samara and handed over to Nizhny Novgorod police. It was also established that after the accident he attempted to leave the territory of Russia, but was unsuccessful. The court, at the request of the investigation, chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention. The maximum penalty under the article provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment.
