A new resident has arrived at "Limpopo" from Belarus — a female bison.
April 1, 2026 16:54 Society In the Nizhny Novgorod zoo "Limpopo," ahead of the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus, which is celebrated on April 2, there has been a new addition: a three-year-old female bison has arrived from Mogilev. She has joined the family of bison already living in the zoo and has become a living symbol of friendship between our countries. The general director of the zoo, Vladimir Gerasichkin, reported that they recently lost one of their oldest residents—a female bison named Muza. "Knowing about our loss, the Mogilev zoo, with which we have long-standing friendly relations, decided to gift our zoo a young female—a living symbol of Belarus. We are confident that she will be well in her new home," said the head of "Limpopo." According to him, the new resident of the zoo has already adapted after the long journey from Mogilev to Nizhny Novgorod and is feeling well. She will now undergo the necessary veterinary procedures and meet the other members of the bison family. The Consul General of the Republic of Belarus, Oleg Shvets, called the appearance of the new bison in Nizhny Novgorod on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus symbolic. He emphasized that just yesterday this female was in the Republic of Belarus, and today she begins a new life in our zoo. Residents and guests of Nizhny Novgorod will be able to choose a name for the new resident of the zoo. They can leave their suggestions in a special box. It is worth noting that the female bison Muza, one of the oldest residents of "Limpopo," passed away a week ago. She lived in the Nizhny Novgorod zoo for 20 years. It was also previously reported that bison may appear in the forests of Nizhny Novgorod. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
