Nizhny Novgorod was ordered to pay 2 million rubles for the dump on Pravdinskaya.

      March 27, 2026 19:04 Society Courts of two instances supported the claims of the Interregional Office of Rosprirodnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mordovia for the recovery of more than 2 million rubles from the administration of Nizhny Novgorod for damage caused to the soil.

      The violation of environmental legislation was identified in 2023. An unauthorized dump of construction waste — stone blocks, broken bricks, and other construction debris — was discovered in the area of house No. 36 on Pravdinskaya Street in the Lenin District. The site was not fenced and was freely accessible.

      According to the supervisory authority, the total mass of the waste placed exceeded 65 tons, and the area of pollution was more than 172 square meters.

      It was established that the land plot belongs to lands for which state ownership has not been delineated. According to the legislation, the responsibility for their maintenance is assigned to local self-government bodies.

      Following the inspection, the city administration issued a warning about the inadmissibility of violating mandatory environmental requirements. Rosprirodnadzor specialists also calculated the amount of damage caused to the soil. The city administration refused to voluntarily compensate for the damage, after which the agency went to court.

      The court found the defendant's guilt fully proven. The decision noted that the pollution occurred as a result of the inaction of the local self-government body, which failed to fulfill its obligations in the field of environmental protection and municipal land control.

      The decision to recover the full amount of damage from the municipality has entered into legal force.
