On March 29, 2026, at 10:35, Incidents: A resident of the Avtozavodsky district of Nizhny Novgorod became a victim of telephone scammers who convinced him of the need to "declare" his financial assets under various pretexts. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The 55-year-old victim contacted the police and reported that he received a call from unknown individuals who introduced themselves as employees of Roskomnadzor and law enforcement agencies. The callers informed him that suspicious transactions were occurring on his bank account that needed to be urgently canceled. They suggested that the man "declare" his money and convinced him to travel to Moscow to sell his car.

The man went to the capital in his car, where he sold it to an unknown person, and handed over the 2.8 million rubles he received to an unfamiliar woman as instructed by the scammers. Upon returning home by train, he realized that he had fallen victim to a scam.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the fraud. Police officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs warns about widespread fraud schemes and reminds about safety rules.

The main signs of fraud include:

      - Courier delivery of money: official organizations do not use couriers to transport funds.

      - External instructions: any financial transactions should not be carried out at the request of third parties.

      - False pretexts: "declaring" money, placing it in "safe" accounts, using bank safe deposit boxes, and financing other countries — all of these may be signs of fraud.
