In fact, this is not just a matter of aesthetics, but an important measure from the perspective of physics and chemistry, explained the editor-in-chief of MIA "Stationary Press," Alexey Nikonov. Simple watering with a hose is not enough, and here's why: Winter dirt: Over the winter, an invisible film of gasoline, oils, fuel oil, and other chemicals forms on the asphalt. Ordinary water cannot cope with this "cocktail" mixture; it simply beads up. Only shampoo can effectively remove these contaminants. Urban dust: This is not just particles of dirt, but microscopic fragments of tires and heavy metals from brake pads. Shampoo with surfactants penetrates the pores of the asphalt, "grabs" the dirt, and carries it away into the storm sewer, preventing it from entering the air and, consequently, our lungs. Road safety: An oily film makes the road slippery even in dry weather, which can lead to accidents. Washing with shampoo improves the grip of the wheels on the asphalt, reducing stopping distance and increasing safety on the roads. Durability of asphalt: Dirt and reagents, penetrating the pores of the roadway, destroy it from the inside. Regular washing with shampoo helps prevent these processes, extending the lifespan of the asphalt and reducing the need for frequent replacement. Thus, washing the streets with shampoo is not just a way to give them a "glossy" appearance, but an important measure for maintaining cleanliness, safety, and durability of the road surface. However, it is important to use biodegradable shampoos to avoid harming the ecosystem and overloading wastewater treatment facilities.
