79 million rubles were embezzled during the overhaul of the trolleybus depot in Nizhny Novgorod.

      On March 30, 2026, at 11:08, Incidents In Nizhny Novgorod, three leaders of two commercial organizations were suspected of embezzling over 79 million rubles from the regional budget. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region.

      It was established that in September 2024, a contract was signed between the state enterprise "Nizhny Novgorod Electric Transport" and a construction company for the development of project documentation and the overhaul of the trolleybus depot. The total cost of the work amounted to 305.8 million rubles. An advance payment of 146.7 million rubles was transferred to the contractor. Of this amount, 96 million rubles were directed to the subcontracting organization.

      Later, an expert examination showed that the actual completed work was valued at 16.7 million rubles. The remaining funds, according to law enforcement, were used for purposes other than intended. The money has not been returned to the budget to this day.

      A criminal case has been initiated under the article on fraud in especially large amounts. Three individuals are being investigated as suspects — the leaders and founders of the contracting and subcontracting companies. They have already been interrogated.

      Two of the suspects are under house arrest, while another has been placed under a travel ban and is required to behave properly. Police officers conducted searches at the residences and workplaces of the suspects, as well as in their vehicles.

      Earlier, it was reported that during the construction of two schools in Nizhny Novgorod and Dzerzhinsk, 60 million rubles were stolen. In February, three individuals involved in the fraud were detained. A criminal case is under investigation.
