"Severstal" avenged itself against Nizhny Novgorod's "Torpedo" and leveled the series.
March 25, 2026 22:15 Sports Nizhny Novgorod's "Torpedo" suffered a shutout defeat in the second match of the series against Cherepovets' "Severstal". The hosts sent four unanswered pucks into the opponent's net and equalized the series—1:1.
From the very beginning, the meeting was challenging for the guests. Early in the first period, the Nizhny Novgorod team committed two consecutive penalties. Despite the pressure, "Torpedo" held firm. However, "Severstal" had a dominating advantage in shots—20:5 at the end of the first twenty minutes. In total, the "autozavodtsy" accumulated eight penalty minutes in the first period.
In the second period, the discipline issues continued. At the start of the period, the Cherepovets team capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play and opened the scoring. Soon after, "Torpedo" captain Alexey Kruchinin was ejected for the remainder of the match for roughness. Almost simultaneously, the Nizhny Novgorod team was penalized for having too many players on the ice, forcing them to defend three against five again. The guests managed to withstand this segment, but at the 32nd minute, "Severstal" increased their lead to 2:0.
At the beginning of the third period, "Torpedo" found themselves short-handed again but managed to fend off the attack. Nevertheless, with teams at even strength, the hosts took advantage of a mistake and extended the score to 3:0. The fourth goal also resulted from another penalty against Alexey Isakov's team.
In total, the team earned 49 penalty minutes. By the final buzzer, "Severstal" had a significant advantage in shots on goal—51:16.
As a result, the Cherepovets team avenged their loss in the first match and leveled the series.
"We took a lot of unnecessary penalties. They certainly threw us off our game. We understood that 'Severstal' would start this match very actively, but we didn't plan to play so much short-handed. The score is 1:1. We are preparing for the continuation of the series at home," summarized the match head coach Alexey Isakov.
The third and fourth matches (0+) will take place on March 27 and 29 in Nizhny Novgorod.
