Every third smartphone in the Nizhny Novgorod region supports 5G.

March 26, 2026 09:01 Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the share of smartphones with 5G support reached 37%. This data is provided by MTS based on the analysis of devices registered in the mobile network. The figure corresponds to the average level across Russia. The region is experiencing a steady increase in interest in next-generation technologies. If in December 2024 the share of 5G smartphones was 25%, by December 2025 it increased to 34%, and by March 2026 it reached 37%. Thus, over 15 months, the figure grew by 12 percentage points. According to the director of the company in the Nizhny Novgorod region, Andrey Belov, users are already purchasing devices with 5G support, despite the fact that networks have not yet been deployed. He noted that the infrastructure in the region has been modernized and is ready to provide data transfer speeds exceeding 1 Gbit/s. At the same time, a key advantage of the technology is not only high speed but also connection stability, minimal latency, and priority processing of different types of data. "The deployment of the network in the region will take place in stages," added Belov. Among the 5G smartphones registered in the MTS network, Apple leads with a share of 54%. Samsung is in second place (20.1%), and Xiaomi is third (11.3%). Following them are Realme (3.3%) and Tecno (1.2%). The shares of Vivo and OnePlus are both 0.8%, Google is 0.6%, and Sony and Asus are both 0.1%. The company clarified that devices supporting frequency bands n1 and n79, planned for distribution in Russia, were taken into account. However, not all registered smartphones will be able to operate in future commercial 5G networks, as the activation of the feature depends on the device manufacturers.
