      The XLII International Scientific Conference "Gorky Readings: M. Gorky in the Research of the 21st Century" will take place in Nizhny Novgorod from March 26 to 28. 130 researchers – philologists, museum and library workers, representatives of leading scientific centers, universities, and museums from Russia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Abkhazia, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, China, and South Korea will participate in the conference. The honorary guests of the "Gorky Readings" will be the great-granddaughter of A.M. Gorky, Ekaterina Alexandrovna Peshkova, and her son, Timofey Peshkov, the great-great-grandson of the writer. As reported by the city’s Department of Culture, the State Museum of A.M. Gorky is traditionally a co-organizer of the "Gorky Readings." The opening ceremony will take place on March 26 at the Institute of Philology and Journalism of Nizhny Novgorod State University named after N.I. Lobachevsky. Within the framework of the event, the winners of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Prize named after A.M. Gorky will also be awarded. "On March 26 and 27, plenary and sectional sessions of the conference will feature presentations dedicated to the most important issues of the cultural and historical space of Russia, their interpretation in the artistic and journalistic works of Maxim Gorky, his literary and intellectual dialogue with contemporaries and predecessors, as well as topics dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Yevgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin, the 130th anniversary of the XVI All-Russian Industrial and Art Exhibition held in Nizhny Novgorod in 1896, the 90th anniversary of the death of Maxim Gorky, and the 150th anniversary of the birth of his wife, Ekaterina Pavlovna Peshkova," said Larisa Motorina, director of the State Museum of A.M. Gorky. According to specialists, for the first time during these days, round tables "Methodology of Teaching the Works of M. Gorky in the 21st Century School" and "Studying the Creative Heritage of M. Gorky: Problems of Higher and Secondary Education" will be held, where leading educators and researchers will discuss the place of the great writer in the modern educational process. In addition, conference guests will participate in the opening of exhibitions – "Gorky and... Others" (a joint project of the All-Russian Association of A.M. Gorky Museums) and "Chekhov and Gorky. Meeting Place – Yalta" (a project of the Crimean Literary and Artistic Memorial Museum-Reserve), as well as get acquainted with the exhibition "Maxim Gorky and Yanko Kupala" (State Literary and Memorial Museum of Yanko Kupala of the Republic of Belarus).

      On March 28, the birthday of the great writer, a flower-laying ceremony will take place at 11:00 at Gorky Square.
