Two developments by Nizhny Novgorod scientists will receive grants from the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) totaling 46 million rubles. The competition is aimed at developing the scientific potential of the subjects of the Russian Federation and solving relevant technological challenges. The Nizhny Novgorod Scientific and Educational Center acted as the operator of the competition in the region. Grants will be awarded to researchers from the G.A. Razuvayev Institute of Organometallic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The first project is related to the development of an enlarged technology for producing ultra-pure chalcogenide glasses for mid-infrared optics. The second project involves creating a prototype encapsulator for cells and small molecules. The Chair of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Ekaterina Solntseva, noted that supporting exploratory research is an investment in the technological sovereignty of the region and the country. According to her, the region will continue to create conditions to shorten the path from fundamental ideas to finished products. The research is planned for a three-year cycle — from 2026 to 2028. Funding is provided through RSF grant funds and co-financing from qualified customers. The Director of the Nizhny Novgorod Scientific and Educational Center, Alexander Tarasenko, reported that the model of the regional RSF competition unites the fund, the region, and the industrial partner. The Nizhny Novgorod Scientific and Educational Center supports projects at all stages — from application submission to implementation, and also forms a pool of participants for the next competition. A total of 36 projects from 11 regions of Russia became winners. In 2025, the Russian Science Foundation held such a competition for the first time. The period from 2022 to 2031 has been declared the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. Among the main tasks are attracting youth to the field of research and development, involving specialists in solving key development tasks of the country, and increasing awareness of the achievements of domestic science.
