The Russian Museum of Photography and HSE University have agreed on joint projects.

March 22, 2026 10:18 Culture and Leisure The Russian Museum of Photography and the Nizhny Novgorod campus of the Higher School of Economics signed an agreement on long-term cooperation in the fields of culture, education, and enlightenment. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Culture.

The agreement provides for the development of student research activities in the humanities, the promotion of educational and research programs, as well as the popularization of cultural and educational projects and exhibitions of the museum. Forms of interaction include joint research, dissemination of results, development of educational programs, conducting seminars, conferences, and round tables, as well as organizing internships and practices for students.

The document was signed by Anna Blyakhman, Director of HSE Nizhny Novgorod, and Ksenia Fedoseeva-Tsaritsynskaya, Director of the Russian Museum of Photography. The agreement formalizes the already established interaction between the cultural institution and the university.

Anna Blyakhman noted that a decade of partnership with the museum has become "the history of creating that very 'nurturing environment' where classical education meets history and art." According to her, the union of culture and science contributes to the development of a "harmonious, multifaceted personality," and joint projects—from the Volga Photographic Biennale to students' research work—confirm this.

The first lecture in the new cycle was delivered by Maria Gelfond, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Literature and Intercultural Communication at HSE Nizhny Novgorod. She spoke about how the development of photography was reflected in the poetry of the 19th-20th centuries.

The next meeting will take place on April 8. The lecture "The Photographer of the Silver Age: Between Literature and Photography (on the experience of Leonid Andreev as a photographer)" (12+) will be given by Senior Lecturer Alisa Mytareva. Meetings are also scheduled for May 13 and June 10.

Ksenia Fedoseeva-Tsaritsynskaya emphasized that "the experience of inter-institutional cooperation is always very important." According to her, for the museum, this is an opportunity to expand practices and rethink the collection, while for students and teachers, it is a chance to delve deeper into museum processes, work with collections, and gain new professional experience.

"Now we will be able to expand our practices," she added.

Cooperation will also continue within the framework of the parallel program of the exhibition "Fusion. An Exhibition about Coincidences and Confluences" (6+), which will open on March 28 at the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum | Russian Art.

In addition, on April 15, a literary and musical composition "Singers of the Volga" (0+) will be presented at HSE Nizhny Novgorod, featuring photographs of the Volga from the collection of the Russian Museum of Photography.

It should be noted that in January, cooperation agreements were signed at the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum between the Ministry of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, HSE Nizhny Novgorod, and the museum. They are aimed at developing long-term partnerships in the fields of culture, science, education, and creative industries in the region.
