Nizhny Novgorod residents are asked to support the region's New Year's trees in the "Yolki Rossii" contest.
January 10, 2026, 7:00 p.m. The Society of Nizhny Novgorod Residents invites people to choose the best New Year trees from Arzamas, Balakhna, Semyonov, Perevoz, Chkalovsk and Sechenovo. They are taking part in the All-Russian contest "Christmas Trees of Russia."
Voting is taking place in the official group of the "CitiesAreChangingForUs" project on the social network VKontakte until 11:59 p.m. on January 12, the Nizhny Novgorod regional government clarified.
The region's Minister of Tourism and Crafts, Sergey Yakovlev, noted that the region will enter its trees in two categories: "Christmas Tree of Russia — medium-sized city" (Balakhna and Arzamas) and "Christmas Tree of Russia — small city" (Semyonov, Perevoz, Sechenovo and Chkalovsk).
The trees from Semyonov and Chkalovsk were installed as part of the national project "Tourism and Hospitality," which is aimed at developing infrastructure, training personnel and promoting travel within Russia.
The "Christmas Trees of Russia" contest is organized by the Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation together with the Association of Territory Development Project Developers, the ANO "Creative Economy" and the All-Russian Association for the Development of Municipal Self-Government, with the support of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation. The contest's goal is to popularize folk arts and crafts, preserve cultural traditions and foster patriotism.
In all improved public spaces under the "Creating a Comfortable Urban Environment" project, trees at least three meters tall are installed. They are decorated with items made by local craftsmen. The contest is held in three categories: for large cities (from 250,000 inhabitants), medium-sized cities (from 50,000 to 250,000 inhabitants) and small towns or settlements (up to 50,000 inhabitants).
