More than 1,300 specialized vehicles are clearing snow in Nizhny Novgorod.

      07 January 2026 13:46 Society — In Nizhny Novgorod, work has begun to clear streets of snow after the onset of a heavy snowfall that meteorologists had warned about earlier.

      The weather forecast has been adjusted to reflect a sharp increase in precipitation volumes, significantly exceeding the average January norm. Precipitation could exceed 50 centimeters.

      According to the mayor’s office, 1,345 units of special equipment and 3,542 road workers have been deployed to deal with the consequences of the bad weather. Municipal road services, contracting organizations and management companies are taking part in the cleanup.

      Clearing is being carried out in all districts of the city. Utility services are sweeping and treating the roadways and are also hauling snow off the streets.

      The city administration said the situation is under full control. Response measures were prepared in advance.

      Recall that the day before, Mayor Yuri Shalabaev convened an operational headquarters in connection with the approaching anomalous snowfall, which began on January 7.

      Earlier, the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Upper Volga UGMS" warned residents of the region about heavy precipitation expected not only in Nizhny Novgorod itself but also in other parts of the oblast. The snowfall may continue into the night of January 8.
