Since the beginning of 2026, inspectors on the roads of Nizhny Novgorod have identified 13 drivers operating vehicles showing signs of alcohol intoxication. Seven of them were caught driving while intoxicated, and another six refused to undergo medical examination, which is also considered a serious offense. All materials have been sent for further review, reports the Traffic Police Department (OGIBDD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Directorate for Nizhny Novgorod.
During the New Year and Christmas holidays, State Traffic Inspectorate officers stepped up control on city streets. Special attention is being paid to evening and night raids, when the risk of encountering a drunk driver is higher than usual. Police emphasize that such checks will continue.
Under the law, driving a vehicle while intoxicated or refusing to be tested carries a fine of 45,000 rubles and deprivation of driving privileges for a period of one and a half to two years. A repeat offense may already entail criminal liability. The State Traffic Inspectorate asks city residents not to remain indifferent. If you notice a driver who may be drunk, call 112, report the vehicle number and the suspected route.
