Five people died in fires over three days in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

A tense situation with fires is being observed in the Nizhny Novgorod region, Deputy Head of the Department of Supervisory Activities and Preventive Work of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), Sergey Bolshakov, said.
According to him, the statistics at the beginning of 2026 are significantly more dismal than they were during the same period last year.
In the first three days of January there were 32 fires, resulting in five deaths and three injuries. One person was hospitalized in serious condition.
Bolshakov emphasized that the fires predominantly broke out in the residential sector. The main causes were careless smoking, malfunctioning electrical equipment, and violations of fire safety rules when using stove heating.
Earlier it was reported that a firework that flew through a window started a fire in a house in Dzerzhinsk.
