New Year’s Day in Nizhny Novgorod passed calmly and without serious incidents. Mayor Yuri Shalabaev reported this on his Telegram channel.

He noted that for many this festive night was a time of increased responsibility. City rescuers, road service workers, employees of utility companies and resource-supplying organizations were on duty. Thanks to their coordinated work, it was possible to respond promptly to all emergency situations.

According to the operational report received on the morning of January 1, two fires occurred in the city, resulting in no casualties. There were also brief disruptions recorded: two at energy facilities, five in the cold water supply system, six in the operation of central heating and hot water supply, and two affecting gas equipment. All faults had been fixed by December 31.

Yuri Shalabaev emphasized that the level of incidents is comparable to previous years and is under control.

To ensure order and cleanliness in the city, 360 units of machinery and 1,425 road service workers and street cleaners were deployed. Crews continue to treat roads and sidewalks, clearing and hauling away the snow that fell throughout December 31.

Earlier it was reported that a heightened state of readiness had been declared in Nizhny Novgorod from December 12 due to deteriorating weather conditions — heavy snowfalls, blizzards, snow drifts and icy conditions. It was also reported that during the New Year holidays the leadership of the city administration and districts moved to an operational schedule.
