Since the start of the new year, from midnight until eight a.m. on January 1, 2026, 11 babies were born in maternity hospitals and wards of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Among the newborns were seven boys and four girls. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Health.
The first child born in the region in 2026 was a boy. He was born at 01:11 at the regional perinatal center of Hospital No. 40.
Nizhny Novgorod Region Minister of Health Galina Mikhailova congratulated the parents on the additions to their families and noted that the birth of a child on New Year’s night is a special event. She wished mothers and fathers joy in parenthood, and the babies health and happiness.
The minister also emphasized that in the first days of the new year mothers and newborns will be under round-the-clock medical supervision.
The agency reminded that caring for the health of expectant mothers and infants is one of the priority areas of the national project "Family." It has been in effect in Russia since 2025 by order of President Vladimir Putin.
It was previously reported that new social support measures begin to take effect in the region from January 1.
