The rector of Nizhny Novgorod State University named after Lobachevsky, Oleg Trofimov, announced the passing of Professor Dmitry Krysko. The well-known scientist died on 20 December.

Dmitry Krysko was a professor at Ghent University and a member of the Belgian Academy of Sciences. His scientific work had a significant impact on the development of the biomedical direction at NNSU.

It was Krysko who initiated scientific cooperation between Nizhny Novgorod State University and Ghent University. Thanks to his efforts, a new research direction — oncoimmunology — was established at NNSU. The scientist worked on studying the molecular mechanisms of tumor cell death and the possibilities of inducing immunogenic cell death, which opens prospects for improving the effectiveness of cancer therapy.

The director of the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine of NNSU, Maria Vedunova, emphasized that Dmitry Vadimovich will remain in the memory of colleagues as an outstanding scientist and a patriot.

"The staff of the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine mourns and remembers. Dmitry Vadimovich will remain for us forever not only a great scientist of world renown, but also a worthy son of the Russian land," she said.

Over the years of cooperation with NNSU under Krysko's leadership, more than 20 scientific articles were published in leading international peer-reviewed journals. Most of them were ranked in the Q1 category. Three papers received the status of Highly Cited Papers according to Web of Science and entered the top 1% of the most cited scientific publications.

One of his students, Viktoria Turubanova, was awarded a medal of the Russian Academy of Sciences for scientific achievements.

The editorial board of NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" expresses condolences to the family and friends of Dmitry Krysko.

Earlier it was reported that honored physician of the Russian Federation Valery Khomenyuk had died in Nizhny Novgorod.
