The Investigative Committee has completed the investigation of a criminal case against a Nizhny Novgorod resident, the former head of the Tambov Region, Maxim Egorov, as well as his alleged accomplices — Alexander Solomatin and Sergey Aganov. All three are accused of receiving a bribe and of acting as intermediaries in its transfer, the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Svetlana Petrenko, said.

It has been established that from 2022 to 2024 Egorov systematically received unlawful remuneration from the CEO of JSC "Gazprom Gas Distribution Tambov" and LLC "Gazprom Mezhregiongaz Tambov", Roman Stefanov. The bribes were handed over in the form of cash, property and various services. The total amount received, according to the investigation, amounted to at least 84 million rubles.

Investigators believe that the money and other valuables were given to Egorov both directly and through intermediaries — Solomatin and Aganov.

As part of the investigation, assets belonging to Egorov and his relatives were seized totaling more than 130 million rubles.

Maxim Egorov headed the Tambov Region from October 2021 to November 2024. In the late 1990s and early 2000s he worked in the administration of the Leninsky District of Nizhny Novgorod and at the company "Nizhnovenergo".

On November 4, 2024, Egorov was relieved of his duties as governor of the Tambov Region by presidential decree. He was detained in July 2025.
