Nizhny Novgorod man accused of promoting terrorism online — video

      The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region is conducting a criminal investigation into a resident of the region suspected of terrorist-related crimes.

      According to the investigation, in 2018 the man posted a video on his page in one of the social networks which, according to an expert's conclusion, contains signs of justification of the actions of persons recognized as terrorists, as well as calls to finance terrorist activities.

      The materials were posted publicly, allowing an unlimited number of Internet users to view them.

      In addition, it was established that the accused was collecting funds allegedly intended for unlawful purposes.

      The illegal activity was identified by officers of the "E" Center of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the North Caucasus Federal District in cooperation with the Nizhny Novgorod regional headquarters of the Interior Ministry. After that the suspect was detained by investigators of the Investigative Committee.

      The man has been charged under part 5 of Article 33, part 4 of Article 205.1 and part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The court remanded him in custody.

      During searches at the suspect's residence and workplace, items and documents were seized that may be relevant to establishing all the circumstances of the case.

      The investigation is currently continuing to collect evidence; the necessary investigative actions and operational-search measures are being carried out.

      Earlier it was reported that the FSB detained a Nizhny Novgorod resident suspected of assisting a terrorist organization.
