      Given the developing weather conditions and the expected appearance of black ice, the Traffic Police Directorate of Nizhny Novgorod Region urges everyone to be extremely vigilant and cautious!

      Recommendations for DRIVERS:

      • Adapt your speed to the weather conditions. Reduce speed, especially when driving over bridges, overpasses, in tunnels, on curves and before pedestrian crossings.

      • Increase the distance to the vehicle ahead and the lateral gap. On a slippery road the braking distance increases significantly!

      • Avoid sharp maneuvers, sudden braking and lane changes. Any ill-considered action may lead to loss of control of the vehicle.

      • Use external lighting (low beam headlights or fog lights) at all times of day to improve the visibility of your vehicle.

      • Be especially attentive at pedestrian crossings! A pedestrian is also moving on a slippery road and may not always be able to stop or react quickly.

      Recommendations for PEDESTRIANS:

      • Be extremely careful! Move slowly, take small steps, and choose footwear with non-slip soles.

      • Be sure to use reflective elements on your clothing! In conditions of poor visibility, wet snow and early onset of darkness, you become practically invisible to drivers. Reflectors will help you be seen on the road.

      • Before stepping onto the roadway, make sure that all vehicles have stopped and are yielding to you. On a slippery road a driver will not be able to stop the vehicle instantly.

      • Do not be distracted by gadgets while walking on sidewalks or when crossing the road. Your attention should be focused solely on the road situation.
