A quarantine for animal rabies has been established in the village of Fokino in the Vorotynsky municipal district of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. The corresponding decree was signed by the region’s governor on December 22, 2025.
The reason for the restrictive measures was the detection of an epizootic focus on the premises of a local resident’s household farm. It has been declared an outbreak focus. The entire village of Fokino has been declared a rabies-affected locality.
Strict restrictions are being imposed for the duration of the quarantine. In the epizootic focus it is forbidden to treat sick susceptible animals, move them, or admit outsiders, except for specialists and residents of the premises. Hunting of susceptible animals (except in cases of population control), and the import and export of animals that have not been vaccinated against rabies within the last 179 days are prohibited.
Throughout the entire village of Fokino it is forbidden to hold exhibitions, fairs and other events involving animals. The removal of susceptible species is also restricted, except for those being sent for slaughter or vaccinated within the specified period. The capture of wild animals for transport to zoos is also suspended.
Note that a rabies quarantine was earlier introduced in another settlement of the Vorotynsky district — in the settlement of Sheremetyevo.
