A chief mechanic from Nizhny Novgorod managed to recover unpaid wages and compensation from a foreign shipowner through the courts — the total amount of payments exceeded 885,000 rubles.
According to the Volga Transport Prosecutor's Office, the basis for the investigation was a complaint by a Nizhny Novgorod resident who worked on a foreign vessel in 2024. After resigning voluntarily, his employer did not transfer the payments due to him under the law.
To protect the sailor's rights, the Nizhny Novgorod transport prosecutor filed a lawsuit with the Avtozavodsky District Court of the city of Tolyatti.
During the proceedings, the court found that the company had violated labor legislation by failing to pay the employee not only wages but also other payments provided for by law.
By the court's decision, the prosecutor's claims were granted in full. The foreign shipowner is obliged to pay the sailor the full amount of the debt, as well as compensation for the delay.
Earlier it was reported that the housing rights of Nizhny Novgorod police officers were restored after the intervention of the Volga Transport Prosecutor's Office.
