A project to improve the Studyoniy Quarter is being launched in Nizhny Novgorod.

      A large-scale project to revitalize the Studyoniy Quarter, also known as the Catholic Quarter, is starting in Nizhny Novgorod. This was announced by the governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, following a meeting with the leadership of the Catholic Church in Russia.

      The central element of the quarter will be the restored Catholic church, the building of which was recently transferred to the Roman Catholic parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Nizhny Novgorod. For decades the building had been used as office space. The development of a restoration project for the church will begin in the near future. As Gleb Nikitin noted, when working with the historical environment of the city and region, a comprehensive approach is being taken.

      “All valuable buildings will be preserved, and landscaped inter-block spaces and courtyards will form a unique creative cluster in the city center,” the head of the region wrote on his Telegram channel.

      According to the governor, the Studyoniy Quarter will include a chamber hall for classical music, guest houses, accommodation facilities, and cultural and gastronomic spaces. The new Catholic church will become an attraction for Catholic students who will study at the IT campus "NEYMARK", and for all foreign settlers.

      Gleb Nikitin reported that nine properties, including cultural heritage sites, have already been completely vacated in the Studyoniy Quarter. They are prepared for investment. Another four properties will be ready shortly. The Agency for Strategic Initiatives for the Development of the Investment Sector (ASIRIS) is already working on forming an investment package that will include 13 properties with various protection statuses.

      It is expected that by the middle of next year a final vision for the revitalization of the Studyoniy Quarter will be formed. After that, the practical phase of project implementation will begin. Earlier, pravda-nn.ru reported that dilapidated buildings would be restored in the synagogue quarter in Nizhny Novgorod.
