Yuri Shalabaev opened the Nizhny Novgorod Square in Sukhumi.

      The head of Nizhny Novgorod, Yury Shalabaev, took part in the opening of an improved public square in the New District of the city of Sukhumi. The mayor reported this on his Telegram channel. The ceremonial event in the capital of Abkhazia was attended by First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Russia Sergey Kiriyenko, President of the Republic Badra Gunba, as well as local residents.

      For now the newly improved square, covering an area of 1.8 hectares, has no official name and is popularly called the "Nizhny Novgorod" square. As the head of Nizhny Novgorod reported, in addition to an extended green promenade area, the new site includes children's playgrounds, bright small architectural forms, swings, an amphitheater, and a light-dynamic fountain that performs "Sormovskaya Lyricheskaya."

      "Now the republican capital has a little piece of Nizhny Novgorod. In the New District, where the square is located, 40,000 people live who have gotten to know our city in a new way," wrote Yury Shalabaev.

      Another notable location in Sukhumi that evokes Nizhny Novgorod is the Makhadjirov Embankment, which has been arranged in the Nizhny Novgorod style. The head of Nizhny Novgorod shared that the artistic lighting on the embankment particularly emphasizes the majesty of the centuries-old eucalyptus trees. The Sukhumi colonnade is also illuminated.

      "The projects have become part of the large joint work carried out by our region under the leadership of Governor Gleb Nikitin and Nizhny Novgorod. The value of this partnership grows every year. We are ready to move forward!" said Yury Shalabaev.

      Residents of Sukhumi are very pleased with the transformation of the square in the New District and note that now they especially want to spend time here, as walks in the square lift the mood.

      "Everything here is wonderful! Children come here, they ride the swings. And everyone is absolutely delighted with the fountain! Even in such cold weather the kids run between the jets. Thank you so much for doing everything from the heart!" shared one local resident.

      "It's nice to receive such a gift. Being here is a pleasure. There are places to sit, things to look at. Everyone loves it when it's done beautifully. We are very pleased," supported another Sukhumi resident.

      People note the neatness of the square and the joy of the children who play here. Their only wish is to take care of this space and keep it as beautiful.

      As a reminder, the square in Sukhumi's New District was improved as part of the international eco-project "Friendship Space Nizhny Novgorod—Sukhumi." This, in turn, became part of a large cooperation program between the sister cities of Nizhny Novgorod and Sukhumi within the implementation of a road map that includes more than 60 events.
