The ice skating season has officially begun in Nizhny Novgorod. The first ice rinks have already opened — you can skate in park "Shveytsariya" and at Trud Stadium. Tomorrow the rink in 1 May Park will join them.
According to Mayor Yuri Shalabaev, nearly 100 rinks will operate in the city this winter.
The rink in park "Shveytsariya" has again been located next to the Vega children's center. The rink will be open until March 9. Sessions run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and until 11 p.m. on weekends and holidays. On New Year's Eve the rink will be open until 3 a.m.
The parks directorate said that this winter rinks will also appear in "Dubki" Park, Avtozavodsky Park and 1 May Park — all of them will become part of the city festival "Gorkovskaya Yolka."
The rink in 1 May Park will open on December 2. An artificial cooling system has been installed here, so the ice will remain stable even in unstable weather. The rink will operate from Tuesday through Sunday, Monday is a day off (except January 5 and February 23). From December 2 to December 31 and from January 12 to March 1 there will be six sessions a day, and from January 1 to 11 an evening session will be added — from 9:30 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.
The rinks in "Dubki" and Avtozavodsky Park are flooded naturally, so exact opening dates depend on the weather. In "Dubki" skating will take place every day except Monday, with several sessions during the day. An evening session will be added during the New Year holidays.
The "Katushka" rink in Avtozavodsky Park will welcome guests on weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on weekends from 10:00 a.m. Here you can not only skate, but also rent skis or a tube for sledding down the hills.
In addition, mass skating sessions will be held at rinks at the city's sports facilities. Trud Stadium is already open. Mass sessions at Zarechye Sports Palace will take place from January 3 to 11, and at "Severnaya Zvezda" — from December 7 to 28, from January 3 to 6 and from January 8 to 11, as well as from January 18 to February 22. Details and schedules can be found on the institutions' websites.
According to the city sports department, 67 yard rinks are planned to be flooded in Nizhny Novgorod by the end of December. All of them will be free. The sites are flooded outdoors, without cooling systems, so launch dates depend on the weather. In addition, rinks will appear on the premises of 24 city schools. Addresses of all sites are already available on the city administration's website.
