Age verification via MAX is being tested in Nizhny Novgorod stores.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a trial is being conducted to implement the national messenger MAX's "Digital ID" service, which allows verifying a buyer's age when purchasing goods with age restrictions. This was reported to NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" by the region's Ministry of Digital Development.

      The new tool will allow buyers to confirm they are of legal age when purchasing age-restricted goods without presenting a passport. If the seller has doubts about the buyer's age, they can request a QR code generated in the MAX app following mandatory authorization on the Gosuslugi portal.

      This form of age verification is already being tested in more than 200 stores in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the regional Ministry of Industry and Trade clarified.

      To use this option, the buyer needs to create a "Digital ID" in the messenger, open the section of the same name and press the "Confirm age via MAX" button. After that they can show the QR code to the cashier or scan it at a self-service checkout. The seller, in turn, opens the "Gosuslugi" app, selects the "Goskan" function and scans the QR code. The system confirms whether the buyer has reached the required age. Verification is also possible using a handheld scanner at the checkout.

      Since the "Digital ID" QR code refreshes every 30 seconds and is protected against copying, it is impossible to take a screenshot — a white screen will appear instead of the image. Access to the code is possible only from the device on which it was created and requires biometric authentication — Face ID or a fingerprint.

      It should be added that a pilot project for age verification via MAX recently started in stores in Udmurtia.

      It was previously reported that Russia's Ministry of Construction plans to create official residential building chats in MAX by the end of the year.
