More than 300,000 conifer seedlings covering an area of 87 hectares were planted this season in the Nizhny Novgorod Region as part of the nationwide "Save the Forest" campaign. According to the Ministry of Forestry of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, a total of 25 planting events were held.
The "Save the Forest" campaign is the largest Russian initiative in the field of forest restoration; it is carried out as part of the national project "Environmental Well‑Being." The campaign's objectives are to plant 70 million trees in Russia annually, to offset the consequences of forest fires, and to draw people's attention to the careful use of forest resources.
"Each year plantings take place on the territory of every forestry unit in our region and attract an increasing number of concerned residents. More than 1,000 people joined the campaign this season. Each planted tree becomes a living testament to our contribution to the future of nature. The significance of such events goes far beyond their environmental benefits: collective forest plantings unite the hearts and efforts of people of different generations, foster a sense of responsibility toward nature, and instill in children an understanding of the importance of preserving the environment," said Roman Vorobyov, Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
Since the campaign's launch in 2019, forestry staff and volunteers in the Nizhny Novgorod Region have planted more than 7 million seedlings, and over 10,000 people have participated in the events.
The campaign is organized by the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization "Sad Pamyati" (Memory Garden) and the All‑Russian environmental movement "Ecosystem" with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation and the Federal Forestry Agency. The partner of the "Save the Forest" campaign in 2025 is the state corporation Rosatom.
Recall that from 2025, by order of President Vladimir Putin, the national project "Environmental Well‑Being" came into effect in Russia, carrying out the tasks previously provided for in the national project "Ecology." The new national project envisages caring for the environment and improving its livability for people. The national project comprises six federal projects: "General Cleanup," "Water of Russia," "Preservation of Biodiversity and Development of Ecotourism," "Forest Conservation," "Circular Economy," and "Clean Air."
