On high-speed rail routes linking Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow, a biometric boarding system is planned to be introduced at the start of 2026. This was reported to TASS by deputy head of Russian Railways Ivan Kolesnikov during the "Transport of Russia" forum.
"In the very near future. This route is Ivanovo and, possibly, Nizhny Novgorod. It's the beginning of next year," Kolesnikov said.
The measure concerns trains under the jurisdiction of the Directorate of High-Speed Services. The project is currently being actively developed.
A pilot launch of the service is scheduled for 2026. At the initial stage it will cover only some of the trains operating on high-speed routes.
Boarding will be carried out through the Unified Biometric System. To use this option, passengers will need to complete a registration procedure in advance, verify their data and give consent to its processing.
Passengers will still have a choice. Biometrics will only be an alternative to presenting a passport at boarding.
Earlier it was reported that hotel check-ins using biometrics are being tested in Nizhny Novgorod.
