The completion date for the reconstruction of the Gorodets hydroelectric complex has been extended by one year.
November 18, 2025 15:24 Economy — The Government of the Russian Federation approved an adjustment to the contract terms for the reconstruction of the Gorodets hydraulic complex, located near Nizhny Novgorod. The corresponding order was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
Under the updated terms, the overall deadline for completing all work on the facility has been extended by one year — from December 2026 to December 2027.
Recall that the reconstruction contractor is JSC "Monolitnoye Stroitel'noye Upravlenie — 1" (Monolithic Construction Management — 1), and the customer is Rosmorrechflot represented by the Federal Budgetary Institution "Administration of the Volga Basin of Inland Waterways." The project to reconstruct the locks of the Gorodets hydraulic complex received a positive conclusion from Glavgosexpertiza (the Main State Expert Review) in March 2023.
Originally, the reconstruction was planned to be completed in 2024, but the deadlines were later pushed back to the end of 2026. Now the completion of all work is not expected before December 2027.
It was also reported that the hydraulic complex is planned to be put into operation in test mode in 2026. As noted by Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin, putting the facility into operation before the construction work is fully completed will allow the throughput capacity of the Volga–Baltic Waterway to be increased in advance.
It should be added that in the summer of 2025 a serious accident occurred at the hydraulic complex, which suspended navigation in the Gorodets area for several days.
