      The head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed that a report be presented to him on the criminal case into the fire at an unauthorized landfill in Nizhny Novgorod.

      As clarified by the regional directorate of the Investigative Committee, a case has been opened on violations of environmental protection legislation, and an investigation is underway. It has already been established that an unauthorized dumping site has been operating in the area of Moskovskoye Highway since 2017, where household, construction and industrial waste is brought.

      The dump regularly catches fire, which leads to emissions of toxic substances into the atmosphere and contamination of soil and groundwater. This creates a threat to the environment and the health of local residents.

      Despite numerous citizens' complaints and a court decision to eliminate the dump, reclamation work has not yet begun.

      Alexander Bastrykin instructed the head of the Investigative Committee’s investigative department for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Ayrat Akhmetshin, to present both preliminary and final results of the investigation.

      The progress of the order’s execution is being monitored by the central office of the Investigative Committee.

      Earlier it was reported that Alexander Bastrykin had taken an interest in an illegal dump in the Kstovo district.
