Walks along the wall of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin will be available until 8:00 PM starting November 1.

      The Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is switching to a new operating mode: from November 1 its walls will be open for visits until 20:00. This is reported by pravda-nn.ru.

      Now residents and tourists will be able to walk along the Kremlin wall and enjoy views of the city in the evening, even after dark. Previously the route was closed as early as 16:00 for safety reasons — because of architectural features such as high steps and unexpected downspouts that were difficult to discern in low light.

      To ensure safe access at night, a modern lighting system has been installed on the section of the wall between the Dmitrievskaya and Chasovaya towers. A total of 350 fixtures were installed, which will operate year-round.

      From November 5 until spring, the winter route along the battlements will be open daily from 10:00 to 20:00. During the period from November 1 to 3 this section of the wall will also be accessible until 20:00; however, the circular route will remain open only until 16:00. On the holiday of November 4 the Kremlin will be closed in connection with the celebration of National Unity Day.

      As emphasized by Yuri Filippov, director of the Nizhny Novgorod State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, residents and visitors of the city for the first time in history have the opportunity to see Nizhny Novgorod at night from the Kremlin walls.

      It was earlier reported that access to the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin would be restricted in connection with the celebration of National Unity Day.
