Residents of three rural localities in the Nizhny Novgorod region have gained access to high-speed mobile internet as part of the state program "Eliminating the Digital Divide 2.0."
High-speed connectivity has appeared in the villages of Belozyorovo in the Dalnekonstantinovsky district, Smagino in the Buturlinsky district and Anda in the Sergachsky district. In total, more than 750 people live in these settlements.
As part of the project, installation of GSM/LTE-1800 standard base stations produced in Russia continues. Domestic equipment branded "BULAT" is being used; it is mounted on antenna-mast structures that provide stable coverage and a reliable signal.
As Dmitry Osipov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Communications of the Nizhny Novgorod region, noted, despite foreign policy restrictions, the program is being implemented on schedule. This has been made possible by the use of Russian technologies. High data transmission speeds are ensured by the use of fiber-optic communication channels.
The "Eliminating the Digital Divide 2.0" program is aimed at settlements with populations from 100 to 500 people where there was previously no internet access. Inclusion of a village in the project depends on residents' voting on the "Gosuslugi" platform.
Applications are now being accepted to connect sparsely populated localities to the internet in 2026. Voting will end on November 9, 2025. According to regional authorities, more than 6,700 residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region have already expressed their desire to have internet in their villages and rural settlements.
An application can be submitted in two ways: through the "Gosuslugi" portal or by sending a letter to the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation at: 123112, Moscow, Presnenskaya Embankment, building 10, structure 2. The appeal may be collective — each signatory will be counted. The letter must include the name, registration address and the settlement in need of connection.
Based on the voting results, a list of territories will be formed where base stations providing 2G and 4G networks will be installed. This will make it possible to use voice services and high-speed mobile internet.
The expansion of digital infrastructure in remote and sparsely populated regions is part of the national project "Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State," which began in Russia on January 1, 2025, by order of President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier reports said that the Nizhny Novgorod region confidently retains its status as one of the country's leaders in digitalization.
