The Nizhny Novgorod Region has gained its fifth partner region in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

      On October 20 in Nizhny Novgorod an agreement was signed between the government of Nizhny Novgorod Region and the hokimiyat of Tashkent Region of the Republic of Uzbekistan on cooperation in trade and economic, scientific and technical, cultural and humanitarian, and social spheres, making Tashkent Region the fifth partner region of Nizhny Novgorod Region in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The document was signed as part of a meeting between the Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin and the Uzbek delegation that arrived in the region led by the hokim of Tashkent Region Zoir Mirzaev. The agreement covers a wide range of areas, including industry, agriculture, construction, healthcare, education and tourism, and also provides for the development of business contacts between enterprises of Nizhny Novgorod and Tashkent regions, the creation of conditions for the implementation of joint projects and exchanges of delegations. The parties intend to actively promote the participation of business representatives in economic and investment events held in both regions, which will not only strengthen business ties but also create the necessary conditions for carrying out mutually beneficial initiatives.

      In addition, within the framework of the meeting a plan of activities was signed for the development of cooperation between the government of Nizhny Novgorod Region and the hokimiyat of Tashkent Region of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2025–2027.

      “Developing interregional relations between our region and the Republic of Uzbekistan is a promising direction in which both we and our partners are equally interested. As part of my participation in the Council of Regions I met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov. We are very grateful for the attention paid to our region by the republic’s authorities. Representatives of Nizhny Novgorod Region are taking part in the events of the second Council of Regions of Russia and Uzbekistan. And we are ready to provide comprehensive support in organizing new joint initiatives; there is excellent potential for this,” said Gleb Nikitin.

      One of the areas of cooperation is interaction in the field of IT and education. At present more than 2,000 students from Uzbekistan are studying at universities in Nizhny Novgorod — about 30% of the total number of all foreign students in Nizhny Novgorod.

      Also during the visit the Uzbek delegation visited the site of the international-level IT campus NEYMARK, which includes 18 modern dormitory buildings.

      “I believe that Uzbekistan and the NEYMARK campus have great prospects for cooperation. I also visited the IT cluster in Tashkent. I hope that we will be able to create a joint inter-cluster project to support IT specialists,” said Gleb Nikitin.

      The importance of developing cooperation was also emphasized by Zoir Mirzaev.

      “I made a great effort to come to Nizhny Novgorod Region. Yesterday before arriving I reported to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mironovich Mirziyoyev. He stressed that we must certainly achieve results. The presidents of the two countries have opened doors for us, and now everything depends only on us,” said the hokim of Tashkent Region.

      During the visit program the guests also inspected the ice arena, visited the Strelka and Pakgauzy, walked around the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin and paid tribute to the victims of the Great Patriotic War by laying flowers at the Eternal Flame.

      Background: At present the government of Nizhny Novgorod Region has also signed cooperation agreements with the Syrdarya, Kashkadarya, Bukhara and Navoi regions of Uzbekistan.
