Nizhny Novgorod residents send an average of 11,000 rubles a month to help their parents.
SuperJob specialists conducted a survey on the opinion that adult children are obliged to help their parents. According to SuperJob analysts, residents of Nizhny Novgorod spend 11,100 rubles on helping their parents. Last year this amount was 10,200 rubles, in 2023 — 10,500 rubles. Every second Russian believes that adult children are obliged to help their parents financially in any case. One in three supports assistance only if the parents are in serious financial difficulty, and 7% reject the very idea of such support. One in eleven (9%) found it difficult to answer this question.
Men somewhat more often than women support unconditional assistance to parents (53% versus 49%), whereas Russian women are more inclined to the view that assistance should be provided only in difficult situations (35% versus 30% among men).
In practice, financial support for parents is widespread: 22% of Russians help them constantly, 36% — from time to time, as needed, 8% — rarely. Only 12% of respondents neither help their parents nor receive help from them, and 16% admitted that their parents help them.
Over the past 15 years, the practice of financially helping parents has become more common. The share of those who help their parents constantly rose from 18% in 2010 to 22% in 2025, and the share of those who help from time to time increased from 32% to 36%. At the same time, the share of those who receive help from their parents decreased (from 26% to 16%).
