Its special value lies in combining theory and practice: students not only review the periodic law, but also clearly see the importance of plastic recycling, holding in their hands elements of the table made from recycled materials," the organizers note.

      Twenty-five teams from general education schools registered to take part in the Dzerzhinsk tournament. Each team consisted of five students from grades 8–11. The first day was entirely theoretical. Leading experts in the field of chemistry gave lectures to the students and their teachers. They spoke about modern directions in chemistry, including ecology, polymers and nanotechnology.

      On the second day the students took part in a quiz-format tournament, and the final stage was assembling the periodic table from recycled plastic, made in the form of a puzzle.
