People's militia members and representatives of Cossack organizations provided significant assistance to the Nizhny Novgorod police in maintaining public order. This was reported by the head of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Nizhny Novgorod, Oleg Sokolov, during a round table held on 17 October at the N.A. Dobrolyubov Nizhny Novgorod Linguistic University, reports "Vremya N".
According to the police chief, about 800 people were involved in activities to safeguard public order in the city over the nine months of 2025. They included members of 11 volunteer people's squads, as well as representatives of one Cossack society — the regional branch of the Great Brotherhood of Cossack Troops.
Thanks to their participation, 118 crimes were detected, and around 1,500 administrative offenses were recorded.
It was previously reported that over the nine months of 2025 the crime rate in the Nizhny Novgorod region decreased by 3%.
