Two settlements have disappeared from the map of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. This is stated in laws posted on the website for the official publication of regulatory acts. They were adopted by the Legislative Assembly on 25 September.
In Shatkovsky District the settlement of Lesogorsk station has been abolished. It is located within the administrative-territorial unit of the urban-type settlement of the same name. Since 2003 there has not been a single resident in this locality, and there are no real estate properties.
In Sharangsky District the settlement of Pishtan has been abolished; it was part of the Starodudkinsky village council. According to official data, no economic activity has taken place in this settlement since 1991; there is not a single registered dwelling or resident.
Both laws will take effect on 1 January 2026.
Recall that in early August the village of Pestryakovo in Gorodetsky District disappeared from the administrative map of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. It was incorporated into the village of Brilyakovo.
Earlier, in May, a decision was made to abolish the settlement of Shkolny, which was part of the Purekhovsky village council in Chkalovsk. No one had lived in that locality for more than twenty years.
From 2003 to 2024, 119 settlements were officially abolished in the region. During the same period only four new settlements were created.
Additionally, according to the 2020 All-Russian Population Census, there were 834 localities in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast with no permanent population.
