Nizhny Novgorod schoolchildren will represent the region at the III All‑Russian Children's Environmental Forum (6+), which will be held in Chelyabinsk on October 14–15.
According to the regional Ministry of Ecology, the team will present the project "Green Mosaic" in the category "Best Greening Project." The participants' task is to carry out greening activities in the Volodarsky District and in areas of Nizhny Novgorod.
The team leader is Maria Shuklina, a biology and chemistry teacher and extracurricular education instructor at Secondary School No. 5 in the urban-type settlement of Tsentralny and at Secondary School No. 8 in the rural settlement of Novosmolinsky in the Volodarsky District.
According to the organizers, young ecologists — winners of Olympiads and competitions and active participants in conservation actions — will present their environmental protection initiatives to an expert jury. A total of more than 3,500 children are expected, including those left without parental care or in difficult life situations.
The forum's goal is to engage young people in environmental professions and to develop professional personnel for the sector starting from school.
Traditionally, teams from newly included regions participate in the Children's Environmental Forum: in addition to the DPR and LPR, students from Kherson Oblast advanced to the second stage this year. In the final, representatives of 51 regions — the winners of the first, remote stage, in which teams from 89 federal subjects of the Russian Federation took part — will compete for the title of best. They presented a wide range of projects, from waterbody cleanup and greening to the development of air quality monitoring systems.
The forum program includes thematic sessions with experts and the defense of individual works in the format of a scientific-practical conference on the first day. On the second day there will be an opening ceremony, a plenary session with representatives of the authorities and specialists, and an award ceremony where winning teams in 18 categories, including a people's choice category, will be announced. Anyone can support the team from their region.
Voting has already started and will continue until October 14. Winners and prize-winners will receive financial support to continue implementing their projects.
The Children's Environmental Forum is held with the support of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, and the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
