The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Garrison Court has sentenced a serviceman who left his place of service in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) without authorization. He will now be sent to a penal colony, 360.ru reports.
According to the investigation, on February 6, 2024, the serviceman left his unit without authorization; the unit was stationed in the area of the special military operation on the Donetsk front. He was detained by officers of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk military commandant's office on July 25, 2025, in the village of Troitskoye on Sakhalin.
The court found the man guilty under the offence "Unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service" (Part 5 of Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Taking into account that the defendant already had a prior conviction, the court deemed him a dangerous recidivist and sent him to a strict-regime correctional colony.
According to the department's press service, the man was taken into custody right in the courtroom; however, the verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed in the prescribed manner.
