Nizhny Novgorod residents were warned about a skin condition that affects the pigmentation of the neck.

      Neglecting the skin of the neck and décolletage can lead to the development of a benign condition — Poikiloderma of Civatte. Dermatovenereologist at the GNCDK of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Nadezhda Kaletova spoke about the symptoms and prevention of the disease in a conversation with the editor-in-chief of "Stacionar-Press," Alexey Nikonov.

      Poikiloderma of Civatte is especially dangerous for those who do not protect themselves from sun exposure and who use too much perfume. Women of advanced age with low estrogen levels and a hereditary predisposition are also at risk.

      The disease affects the lateral surfaces of the face, the neck, and the décolletage area. The skin becomes thinner, and areas of hyperpigmentation alternate with zones of paling. The part of the neck covered by the chin is not affected by the disease because it is hidden in shadow.

      Pigmentation caused by poikiloderma can be removed with a laser. Treatment with retinoid creams, vitamin C, or hydroquinone is also possible, but results are individual.
