Nizhny Novgorod's commuter trains are to be developed following Moscow's example.
The project for operating city commuter trains in Nizhny Novgorod is planned to be developed along the lines of the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD). Seven more urban agglomerations in Russia will do the same. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Alexey Shilo.
According to the official, the development of rail transport will reduce the load on the regions' road networks. Projects to launch central diameters have already been well worked out in Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan — the cities will be among the eight agglomerations where they want to apply the Moscow system. The prospect is also being considered in Perm.
