A poacher with the carcasses of three moose was caught in the Gorodetsky District.

      Police officers of the Gorodetsky District detained a 35-year-old resident of the town of Bor suspected of illegally hunting three moose. According to the investigation, the man killed the animals himself and then asked acquaintances to help remove the carcasses from the forest.

      A report of possible poaching was received by the duty unit of the MO MVD of Russia "Gorodetsky" on October 7 from a game management inspector. He stopped a car with four passengers in hunting grounds near the village of Opalyovo. Brown stains were noticed on the men's footwear, which aroused suspicion.

      Police who arrived at the scene established the identity of the driver. He turned out to be a previously unconvicted unemployed local resident born in 1990. Items indicating hunting activity were found in the car: an axe, a backpack, specialized footwear and four cartridges, presumably for a hunting rifle.

      During further searches in a shelterbelt near the village, boot prints and characteristic stains were found, and then the site where the animals were butchered. It was established that a mature male, a female and a calf less than one year old were taken.

      A criminal case has been opened under part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — "Illegal hunting." The preliminary amount of damage to wildlife is estimated at approximately 240,000 rubles.

      The hunting rifle seized from the suspect is officially registered. The man has admitted his guilt. He is currently under a written undertaking not to leave the jurisdiction and to observe proper behavior. The article's sanction provides for a punishment of up to five years' imprisonment.

      Recall that the Borsky City Court has begun hearing the case of a poacher who opened fire on people.

      It was also reported that the poacher from Tonshaev who killed two moose may face up to 5 years in prison.
