Nizhny Novgorod Region and Abkhazia are strengthening cooperation in tourism.
The Ministries of Tourism of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Abkhazia signed a cooperation agreement aimed at developing the tourism industry in both regions. The document was signed by Sergey Yakovlev and Astamur Logua, who head the respective ministries.
According to Sergey Yakovlev, the signing of the memorandum was an important step in strengthening bilateral ties. He noted that the parties are ready to share experience and implement joint initiatives and projects. Such cooperation, in his view, will promote cultural exchange, strengthen friendly relations between peoples, and contribute to the sustainable development of the tourism sector.
Under the agreement, an active exchange of regulatory legal acts, as well as regulatory and managerial practices in the tourism sector, is planned. This aligns with the objectives of the national project "Tourism and Hospitality," aimed at the comprehensive development of the industry in Russia.
Astamur Logua emphasized that long-standing ties have developed between Abkhazia and the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Over the past 15 years, more than two hundred students from Abkhazia have been educated in Nizhny Novgorod, and today they contribute to the development of their republic. He also noted that tourism is a key sector of Abkhazia's economy, and the signing of the memorandum sets a new direction for expanding existing cooperation.
The agreement provides for the holding of joint events — exhibitions, forums, fairs and seminars — as well as exchanges of experience in promoting tourism products and establishing contacts among industry representatives.
A delegation from the Nizhny Novgorod Region, headed by Governor Gleb Nikitin, arrived in Abkhazia on an official visit. During the trip, a meeting was held with the President of the Republic, Badra Gunba, at which Nikitin presented the region's investment and tourism potential and discussed the key areas of bilateral cooperation.
The national project "Tourism and Hospitality," initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, is aimed at developing infrastructure, producing domestic equipment, training personnel, promoting travel within the country, and improving the quality of tourist services. It comprises five federal programs, including "Five Seas and Lake Baikal," "Personnel for Tourism," and "The Country's Tourist Attractiveness."
